The only problem I can see is that it would be a huge pain in the neck. Also I've read in a number of places that you need to have links from "important" sites to really increase your rankings with link popularity.

That's the big problem with the virtual domain idea too.
But, I want to keep my question still out there. If link popularity were determined by sheer numbers (not quality of those linking pages) would links from virtual domains work?

Do SEs determine links from 2 different domains or 2 different IP addresses?
Ideas??
