First off don,t give away the refer-me before you get a referal. Offer the Referal program or something else to give the visitor incentive to refer a friend. Don't give them the refer-me in your email either. Use it as a treat to lure them to your site... in other words in your email say something like this...(Name) got a free referal program just for using our referal system to tell you about our site...etc.
