The AOL caching proxy will send an HTTP Header "If-Modified-Since:" to check and see if the requested page has been updated. If it has been updated you will see in your logs a response code of 200 which means that the Web server actually sent the page. If the page has not been modified you will see a 304 response which will signal the caching proxy to deliver the page they already have.

The reason your trackware is returning stats is because someone has requested your page e.g. a 'hit'. Irregardless whether or not it was transferred, it is still a hit, So it is tracked.
