The facts

The media has made a great deal about hackers steaming credit card numbers off the Internet. In fact, there are no substantiated stories of that actually happening. It could happen, but apparently it isn't really the problem people imagine. In fact, people do stupid things with their credit cards all the time and think nothing of it. For instance, handing it to a waiter in a restaurant, or a minimum wage gas station attendant. The fact is that making a credit card purchase by phone or by Internet is the safest way to shop! Since you are not signing a sales receipt, it is a simple matter of contacting your credit card company and disputing the bill if in fact you didn't make the purchase.
