This gets the results you want in both Navigator and IE. At least on Macintosh versions anyway. I haven't tried it on PC versions yet, but it probably does the same thing. Doing so will allow the parent cell background image to show through each new nested cell, without retiling the image within them.

I work on both Mac and PC and I am running into the problem above on my PC - I used your solution
but it doesn't work. Any other suggestions maybe?
