If they were to release these then it really wouldn't make a difference if you registered 2 or 3 of them. There would still be more that people could take. Also the goverenment has really been tightning the laws about trademark, copyright stuff when it comes to domain names. Meaning if you had a business and trademark of joes_hole.com or something and someone else came along with joes_hole.net you would be able to sue them and take the name from them much easier than in the past. My opinion pick a good unique name and hope someone bigger doesn't want it. Although I thought IonZone was unique...
