Jennifer, I strongly believe in picking a theme and sticking to it for your affiliate programs. For example, if your theme (niche) is small businesses going online, then pick affiliate programs that they could use:

1. How to set up a web site
2. How to accept credit cards
3. How to package information products
etc...

This way you could sign up for more than one affiliate program and market to a specific niche of people.
