Step 1: you need to get a SSL cert - which is a certificate from a 3rd party company verifying that the customer is purchasing from the actual company and not from a potential imposter site.

I personally use Thawte (

I like them because:
- from what I could find, it is the least expensive SSL certs around, $125/for 1st year & $100/renewal- go to to get complete pricing info
- they are part of Verisign, which is very well known for e-comm
- I have used them several times and have had no problems
- There is a real-time status, so you can keep track of the status of your SSL cert while your application is being processed
- here is the link that has a good SSL Certificate Overview:
- they have a real-time chat w/support staff that is available - - whenever I had a question, they always had an answer to my question

Step 2: talk to you Hosting Provider to sign up for secure hosting.

I just opened up my own ISP/Hosting Company/Discount Domain Name Registration, InterCape Online, (as of 6/10/00, you will see a splash page w/basic info because the complete site is being designed as we speak) and we charge: $50 setup fee + $25/month for Virtual Domain Hosting (50 email addresses, Online Graphical Mail Interface w/aliasing, forwarding, mailing lists and autoresponders, WebMail, 100 Megs, 2 Gigs of bandwidth, UNIX/FrontPage 2000, 2 Web Statistics Reports - graphical & analog text) and our Secure Server for $50 setup + $10/mo

Hope that this info helps you...

Good Luck,
Shirley Tow

PS: You can register your domain name through us for just $20/year with NO Domain Name Setup Fees & NO Internic/Network Solutions fees.
