PHP is an opensource scripting language, and the popularity of it has exploded in the last year. Most web-host support PHP now without much problem, and you only need mySQL if you need a database of some sort, PHP is quite useful without the SQL interface. As far as hosts, I Hurricane Electric, supports PHP and comes with a shared mySQL server, among other things. Highly recommended. Best of Luck!
