I suspect Google has done something. A month ago, almost all of the separate rider Palmares files on my site (http://www.wcrpalmares.org) in the Palmares directory were ranked either #1 or very near the top.

Let's look at one example: Nicole Reinhart (.../palmares/reinhart.htm). It was ranked #1 out of over 600 returns. In one week last month, it received over 5,000 page calls. Then it was listed in Yahoo's directory (Recreation/Sports/Cycling/Cyclists) where it still is. Now a search at google.com on "Nicole Reinhart" and the Palmares file doesn't turn up at least on the first several pages.

It might be that they put in some type of spam bot and it found her name too many times. I will try eradicating her full name in a few places and see what happens. It was never spammed - it's just that it is her name and the uses were justified.
